The title of the performance is the title of a Croatian folk ballad; the basic question asked by all: OH, YOU POOR MAN, WHY ARE YOU ON EARTH?

Prvič puška poči, Joža gori skoči.
Drugoč puška poči v Jožefove prsi.
On si je zaviknul: - Jezuš i Marija!

After Mara and her lover carry out their plan and murder her husband Jožef, Mara is haunted by the question she keeps on hearing : - I am asking you, Mara, - is your heart aching at all?
