In 1918 The Aeolian Company, best known for their Pianos started Mfg. their own records. These first records were Hill and Dale or Vertical Groove Recordings with micro grooves which made for a lengthy playing time. Here is a beautiful rendition of Thais Meditation violin Solo performed on one of those first series of Vertical Groove Aeolian Records produced between 1918 and 1920 before the Company began producing lateral Groove records. This is played by Maximilian Pilzer with Piano Accompaniment. Unlike Edison or Pathe, Aeolians' Verticals could be played with a steel needle, as long as the reproducer was in the correct setting to play Vertical Groove Records. This record is being played on a Sonora Elite with a special carved Wooden Tone arm and base.
