Away Down The Marina - The Máirtín de Cógáin Project - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 09, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Words & Music, Michael O' Brien
Driving along the American I-10 highway, just south of Death Valley from LA to Phoenix, Arizona on a scorching afternoon, Jimmy Crowley gave me this song. I sung it that night at a gig in the Daugherty house. It went down a bomb and became the catalyst of this album, propelling me to learn more songs with verve and excitement.
Michael O' Brien is from Butlerstown, in West Cork. He heard the song as a young fella but could only remember the first verse. No amount of research could revive the rest of it, so he retold the ancient story of love at first sight.
The Marina was a lovely walkway down along the River Lee not used by young lovers much today, but who knows, this song could send them down again. I changed one word in the song to suit my own romance...

It was recorded live at The Celtic Junction in St. Paul, MN in 2010.
