July 1 1956, Elvis Presley performed 'Hound Dog', to a live Hound Dog when he appeared on NBC- TV's 'The Steve Allen Show.' TV critic John Crosby panned Elvis' performance, calling him an 'unspeakable, untalented and vulgar young entertainer.'

July 2 1981, Bruce Springsteen opened the first of six nights at the newly opened Brendan Byrne Arena, New Jersey also known as "The Meadowlands."

July 3 1970, The first day of the three day Atlanta Pop Festival took place, featuring among others Jimi Hendrix, The Allman Brothers, Johnny Winter, Mountain, The Chambers Brothers and Spirit. An estimated 350,000 to 500,000 music fans attended the festival.

July 4 1911, Born on this day, Mitch Miller, conductor, arranger and record company executive. Now follow the bouncing ball and sing along

July 5 1965, Marty Balin and Paul Kantner form a Folk-Rock group that would evolve into the Jefferson Airplane. The Airplane made its debut the following month at a Haight-Ashbury club, and was signed to RCA later that year.

July 6 1984: All six Jackson brothers performing together as the Jacksons kick off their massive, 55-date Victory Tour in Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO.

July 7 2007, Ozzy Osbourne becomes the first artist to receive the honor on Birmingham's own Hollywood-style Walk of Fame. The singer told more than 1,000 fans on Broad Street that the brass paving star meant more to him than any Hollywood accolade.
