December 9 1955, Johnny Cash appeared at Arkansas High School, in Swifton Arkansas with Elvis Presley opening the show. Johnny and Elvis's skyrocketing careers didn't allow them to play too many high schools after that!

December 10 1983, Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson began a six week stay at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Say Say Say'.

December 11 1926, Born on this day, singer, songwriter, Big Mama Thornton. Janis Joplin covered her song 'Ball And Chain', and Big Mama had the 1953 hit version of 'Hound Dog' before Elvis Presley covered it.

December 12 1915, Born on this day, Francis Albert Sinatra, Grammy winning singer and Oscar winning actor. Frank made his first record in 1939. He was the first singer to encounter modern 'pop hysteria' and he set the stage for Elvis in the 50s and the Beatles in the 60s. Frank also refined the "concept" album back in the 50s and started his own label in the 60s, who among others, Jimi Hendrix was signed to.

December 13 1967, Born on this day, R&B singer and pianist, Jamie Foxx, (born Eric Marlon Bishop). Jamie also won the Academy Award in 2005 for his performance as musician Ray Charles in 'Ray.'

December 14 1985, Whitney Houston climbed to the top of the UK charts for the first time with 'Saving All My Love For You'. The song which was written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin, was a minor hit for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. in 1978 and was also a US No.1 for Whitney.

December 15 1910, Born on this day, John Hammond, producer and legendary A&R scout. Worked with Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, Count Basie and Stevie Ray Vaughan to name but a few.
