The Passacaglia, consisting of 100 variations contained therein, is variation 22 out of 27 of Sequentia cyclica super Dies Iræ ex missa pro defunctis. This extract from the Passacaglia contains one of my favorite moments from the movement, being tranquil and psychedelic; and because the rhythmic complexities in this extract are more on the extreme end of the spectrum, they thus necessitate great interpretive liberties to be taken.
