Andrea Parodi nasce a Cantù, cittadina della Brianza, il 6 maggio 1975. Fin da piccolo ascolta cantautori liguri, romani e bolognesi, ma precoce è anche la passione per i grandi artisti americani: Dylan, John Prine, Mellencamp, Steve Earle, Cohen, Townes Van Zandt e Woodie Guthrie. Dopo aver interrotto l’università, decide di impegnarsi nel sociale e lungo tutto l’arco degli anni Novanta segue gli psicolabili prima e minori a rischio poi. In questo periodo nasce l’amore per la chitarra e la voglia di mettere qualche lirica scarabocchiata tra un centro sociale e una partita di calcio. Poi il grande incontro, quello con il musicista canadese Bocephus King, al secolo Jamie Perry. Durante una tournée italiana i due diventano amici. Li unisce la passione per la buona musica e l’amore per il grande Cinema. Dopo meno di un mese Andrea è su un aereo diretto a Vancouver dove King, entusiasta delle canzoni dell’amico italiano, mette a disposizione tutta la sua abilità arrangiativa, i suoi musicisti e un brano da tradurre (Nowhere at all che diventerà Lui non c’è più). Il risultato è l’album d’esordio Le piscine di Fecchio. Oggi Parodi arriva al suo secondo album, Soldati, con a fianco ancora Bocephus King e molti altri amici musicisti incontrati lungo la strada, come la rock band marchigiana The Gang, con cui divide spesso il palco. È infatti impegnato da diversi anni in un never ending tour in giro per l’Italia e per il mondo (Scozia, Germania, USA, Canada, Svizzera, Inghilterra). Lo scorso marzo è stato invitato a partecipare ad uno dei più prestigiosi festival musicali a Austin, Texas. Ne è seguita una tornèe di 7 concerti in Texas, al confine col Messico, con partecipazioni a trasmissioni radiofoniche nazionali e soprattutto l’ispirazione per la scrittura di nuove canzoni dal sapore border e la rivisitazione in chiave tex mex di Avventura a Durango, registrata insieme al cantautore fiorententino Massimiliano Larocca, Andrew Hardin (Tom Russell, Nancy Griffith, Dave Alvin) e Joel Guzman (Los Lobos, Los Super Seven, Joe Ely) che farà parte del secondo volume di Mille Papaveri rossi, album tributo a Fabrizio De Andrè. Parodi aveva partecipato anche alla prima edizione con il brano Suzanne. In questi anni oltre a scrivere nuove canzoni e ad esibirsi dal vivo, Parodi è stato il direttore artistico di prestigiosi festival musicali e ha portato in tour in Italia diversi musicisti e band stranieri tra cui Joe Ely, Holly Williams, Eileen Rose, Luke Doucet, JT Van Zandt etc etc. Lo scorso anno ha condotto Life is a Carnival, una trasmissione radiofonica on the road in onda sulle frequenze di LifeGate Radio. Proprio in questi giorni sta lavorando alla pubblicazione di un disco molto particolare, una raccolta di murder ballad, con pezzi originali e traduzioni da autori statunitensi.

Andrea Parodi was born May 6 1975 in Cantù, Italy. A northern town not at all known for it's music, but more for fine lace and a fabled basketball team that hasn't seen a championship since the mid-seventies. Growing up in his small town with not much to do except play soccer, Andrea quickly discovered music as a way to escape. Fortunately for him, in the center of town was a very small, but heavily stocked record store. Over a ten year period he sharpened his musical knowledge, frequenting the shop almost daily. He started with traditional Italian folk heroes such as Fabrizio de Andrè and De Gregori. But was soon introduced to music from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. By the time Andrea was 16, he was devouring CD's from Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, and discovering artist like Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and Woody Guthrie. While his friends were busy buying up the latest pop records, he was absorbing a whole new culture. In the early nineties Andrea's love for music inevitably led him to pick up the guitar. In between working long hours as a teacher and playing soccer, he found himself constantly writing music. It didn't stop there. He began to write articles for a music magazine called "La Tela" and wrote daily articles for a local paper called "Il Corriere di Como". In 1998 he organized "Septemberfest" in Cantù, bringing high caliber artists like Dave Alvin, Jono Manson and Victoria Williams to town. These connections eventually gave him the opportunity not only to open up for, but to perform with international musicians like Eric Andersen, John Hammond, Ruth Gerson, Neal Casal and Rick Danko (The Band) and with great Italian artists like Massimo Bubola and Claudio Lolli. During an Italian tour by Canadian musician Bocephus King in the summer of 2000, the two became acquainted. With similar tastes in music and movies, they bonded quickly. Andrea soon found himself in Vancouver, Canada, recording his first CD. With Bocephus King producing and BK's band, The Rigalattos, providing the music, Andrea was experiencing a whole new outlet for his obsession with music. Out of that collaboration came "Le Piscine di Fecchio"(the pools of fecchio), a critically acclaimed debut CD and a very strong start for an artist who is destined to make big waves in his country. Andrea is a new breed of songwriter. He successfully combines the traditional Italian songwriter with the classic American troubadour. Now, with new songs and a new CD on the way, as well as collaborations with Bocephus King continuing, the artistic journey of Andrea Parodi has only just begun.
