Dodgers Hat Ted Wulfers - Video

DESCRIPTION:
To celebrate the Los Angeles Dodgers winning their NLDS and advancing to the NLCS and how amazing their 2013 team is, I'm dedicating today's Teddy Tuesday to my song "Dodgers Hat"

I've been a baseball fan all my life. I started hitting pitched baseballs at eighteen months old (some great videos/pics exist somewhere) and played baseball competitively from tee-ball into high school when rock 'n roll and playing guitars stole my soul away from my first love, America's past time. However, before rock 'n roll, I was a power hitting first baseman that dabbled at being looked at by scouts early on for the Baltimore Orioles organization. I have occasionally revisited these skills in the Chicago style 16" softball leagues of Los Angeles. Go Redliners!

Coincidentally, I was also eighteen months old when I made my first trip to California and while in Los Angeles, my Dad took me to my very first baseball game at Dodger Stadium in April of 1981. Rookie pitcher Dave Stewart (great American baseball pitcher..not the multi-talented British rockstar of Eurhythmics fame) pitched for the Dodgers and Rick Monday autographed a ball and gave it to us. I don't remember all those specific details but luckily my Dad saved the ball for me and included them on yellow post-it notes that are still with the ball to this day. What I do remember most about the game was being yelled at by the woman in front of me to stop kicking her chair. To this day, I've never kicked the seats in front of me at sporting, theatre or concert events.....unless they're being assholes ;)

The verses and chorus came very easily and soon I had a great guitar lick and a song that was catchy, fun, tongue in cheek and celebrated three of my biggest loves in life; women, music and baseball.

Manny Sanchez was behind the Neve board recording and mixing. I sang lead, played lead and rhythm guitars, bass, Hammond B-3 organ and piano. Jeff Kelly played drums and Dan Wean was my guitar counterpart who plays the double solo at the end with me. Dan, Diana Rein, and Jeff Kelly sang backup vocals with me and we knocked the tune out in a couple of hours and mixed it at Gravity. On a technical note, I used my 2003 Gibson SG '61 Re-issue into two amps at once...my Marshall 1987XL Plexi and my Fender Pro Vibrolux Reverb. Dan played a Gibson Les Paul Jr. into his Hiwatt.

The song has since been played many times at Dodgers Stadium throughout the years though as their play list has turned more techno/electronic the last couple seasons, I haven't been getting as many reports. But it was really thrilling to get reports of fans hearing the song at games, singing and dancing along and for my first "stadium music" to be played in the very first stadium I ever saw a baseball game in.

Here is a clip of "Dodgers Hat" being played at Dodger Stadium in between at bats. I'd like to thank everyone involved in getting this song played at the stadium and I want to thank everyone who loves the song, requests the song and who has shared the song with other people.

It's very special to me to have been able to combine my two loves of music and baseball in a way I never thought imaginable. Of course, a version of this song and another baseball classic, got me in trouble and placed me into a huge media blitz and battle in between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs and popped me onto hundreds of radio stations, into hundreds of magazines, newspapers and all over television. You can google that if you like since for now, that is a story for another day....

I am proud now to call Los Angeles my home and I am a proud Dodger fan. It's nice to come full circle these 30 plus years later since that game in 1981. October 7, 2013, I was at the NLDS clinching game and I can't thank Juan Uribe enough for saving the day with his huge late game homerun and being so amazing as he always is in the post season. He and I are the same age and I'll always be a Juan Uribe fan. Go Dodgers!! 2013 is the year!!

DODGERS HAT
She wore a Dodgers hat, a Dodgers hat
She wore a Dodgers hat, a Dodgers hat
And then she came over and fiction was fact
An' all she was wearin' was a Dodgers hat

Ya know I love the ladies who love baseball too
And I get in so much trouble
It's just what I do
Ya see I got these friends of mine
Who don't believe a word I say
They hear all my stories
And then say there's no way
But then she came over and fiction was fact
And all she was wearin' was a Dodgers hat

She wore a Dodgers hat, a Dodgers hat
She wore a Dodgers hat, a Dodgers hat
And then she came over and fiction was fact
An' all she was wearin' was a Dodgers hat

Let's get some runs boys
