Larry Murray, a Southern California songwriter wrote this song in tribute to John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy, all killed before their time. The song was
originally recorded in 1969 by Tommy Cash. Probably his best-known recording, having reached #4 on the Billboard country charts and #79 on the Billboard Hot 100, the only song of his to make the pop charts. It made it all the way to #1 on RPM Magazine's Canadian country chart. This variant was recorded by Dick Nolan on his 1969 Country With Marlene Beaudry LP, trk#7, from Arc Sound Ltd, Arc AS-819, Toronto, ON, recorded at Bay Studios, Toronto, under the direction of Ben Weatherby; and on Newfoundland Songbook, Vol 5, trk#14, 2008 CD from Unidisc Music Inc, Pointe-Claire, QC. Requested by: "aiden_coombs".
