Dr. Rickey Vincent is a scholar, educator, radio host and author. He holds a Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from UC Berkeley and lectures on black music history, the cultural politics of Hip Hop, and issues of African American culture and globalization at the UC Berkeley. He also hosts The History of Funk on KPFA radio. In this segment, Dr. Vincent presents his perspective of how James Brown played a role of both entertainer and leader during the civil rights movement.
