Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport, today we're checking out Dunlop's Echoplex Delay. The Echoplex Delay is engineered to sound like a perfectly calibrated Echoplex, fresh off the Maestro assembly line in the 1970s, but with some hidden features to adapt to the modern players. In its default mode, the Echoplex Delay offers a carefully-tweaked version of the EP-3, with a dynamic delay range from four milliseconds all the way to 750. When connected to the MXR Tap Tempo pedal, the delay time stretches to an amazing four second 'tape loop'. The default mode offers the same gentle EQing and subtle modulation of the original, while the Sustain control changes the number of repeats. When you press the Volume knob, the mode shifts to Age mode, and the Volume control now lets you adjust the virtual age of the unit, adding wear and tear to the belt and roller for that familiar wow and flutter that the EP-3 is prized for. As the age increases, so do the age-induced artifacts, such as extra tape saturation and more intense modulation. By exploring the guts further, you'll find the option to operate in buffered or true bypass mode, along with a full-wet mode. Both input and output jacks turn into stereo ins and outs with a TRS cable, giving players with stereo rigs plenty of routing options. The dry path of the Echoplex is 100 percent analog, featuring a super high-fidelity signal path due to MXR's constant headroom technology which internally increases the operating voltage to 20V. This feature provides the Echoplex with supreme headroom that eliminates unmusical clipping caused by stacking several pedals. Plus, the Echoplex Delay is optimized for the Dunlop Echoplex Preamp for the ultimate EP-3 experience. Like all Dunlop products, the Echoplex Delay is made right here in the USA.
