run down days in the hometown
and a meter still running, waiting for something
good times, seems like I've had mine
if it was all leading somewhere, shouldn't I be there

but you still live in the same hometown
where you grew up just to be let down
find yourself making the rounds again
with all of the could-be's or might-have-beens
everyone's wondering if you'll stay
and you're sinking back into the good old days
oh, cause it's no big deal right now

drunk friends, wasting the weekends
stumbling home through the snowdrifts, eyes halfway open
sundays changing to mondays
waking up back at the same job, where was the payoff

headlights, driving at midnight
I wanna lift off the highway, out into deep space
but these dreams can't break the gravity
rockets shoot off and keep stalling
burn up like falling stars
