Well, I once knew a girl
or should I say, we used to fuck
we were pretty good friends
but I guess in the end, not good enough

The moon stuck in a tree, a party just down my street, 1993
She was the friend of a friend, said haven't we met, shared cigarettes
Then the sun in her window that blazed through the curtains so bright
and my mind reconstructing events of the previous night

Well, she firmly believed that we both should be free, I did not disagree
So we just came and went, without promises, again and again
and so played the renegade swashbuckling outlaws from love
with no rules to break except wanting the other too much

I said something carelessly once, I think we were both drunk,
she got upset.
But I didn't care to explain, just a joke anyway, but she got up and left
And I know now it would have been easy to make it alright
But somehow I didn't and these days I'm wondering why.

Well, I once knew a girl
or should I say, we used to fuck
we were pretty good friends
but I guess in the end, not good enough
