9.) How did the name Lyn Leon come about?

CAROLYN:
We couldnt find a name. Matthias had a dream and woke up one morning saying we should call the band Lyn Leon. And I said no, no, no, I dont like it. And then when we had finished Glass Lounge and I went home they picked Lyn Leon without me.
STEPHAN:
A lot of people dont really mention that it is coming from her name.
CAROLYN:
Even like my people in New York. It took them so long. Well also because my last name is pronounced Lennhart, not Leonhart. So Lyn Leon like throws off a lot of people who know me.
STEPHAN:
And then the next thing is that of course today when you can google everything, we googled on Lyn Leon and there was nothing, nothing. So it is of course great if somebody looks up Lyn Leon, you just find this band and thats great. Of course a lot of people write it the wrong way. They write Lynn with a double n which is of course wrong in this context with this band. I think it is a real nice name because it is not related to a person. It is really a trio thing. But it shows the direction and of course the singer is always very important.
CAROLYN:
I first hated it because I thought it was so obvious that it came from my name. Now I think it has an identity into itself. Now I like it cause I dont feel it is my name caught up.

10.) Is Lyn Leon a trio with guests or a band?

CAROLYN:
We have actually been asked to perform as just a trio. But normally we do like to have a drummer and a bass player. But that changes, depending on what we need and everything because we really are the core. So its good to have a little arsenal of options depending on what we are doing. But for example the tour that we have coming up in November we are bringing back the original bass player that we brought in when we started performing live. So its really great to be able to work with him again. But the artistic choices and decisions that are made of whom we are gonna go with is really the three of us. So we like to keep it simple and its easier of the musicians, too. They have some freedom and dont have to go down with us or up, you now.

11.) Who are the guest musicians and how did you pick them?

STEPHAN:
We specially work together with Wolfgang Zwiauer who is a great bass player, one of the big Swiss bass players. Of course he is involved in so many projects, he does a lot of studio jobs. So sometimes you dont have the luck to get him for a tour. But this time in November we are lucky to have him with us. Then there is the drummer, Kaspar Rast, who plays on all the CDs weve done. We like his playing. But he is not the kind of touring type we need, he is more a studio-musician. When you tour as much as we already do you kind of learn about the preferences of some people. We need people who like to travel and who fit into a group also. Although we are a trio, we are a group when we are on tour. We are Lyn Leon, five people with a sound guy, so we are actually six people who have to give a mood, a vibe to people in concerts. Today business is really hard. We play in November which is pretty close. A lot of the musicians are already involved with other projects. So you have to check out who is available and who can play a tour like this. But there are so many god musicians. And we have an idea of how music has to be and has to sound. So they get a CD and we tell them how the music has to sound. And they do it.
CAROLYN:
And also to be fair to the musicians because every one weve worked with has been really great and has really helped us a lot. But its hard because we have a lot more instruments than any other group ever has. There is a lot more to haul, its a lot more intensive to tour with the whole crew, objectively. We have to have the freedom to use different people because sometimes people get tired. Different people have different temperaments and sometimes they do get tired of all the touring. Its 90% survival and then 10% music on stage, less than that. So you have to take in other factors how to make the tour the most productive for everyone. Some if people get worn out, give them a break and call somebody else. There are a lot of factors that go into it.
