ABOUT THE MEETINGHOUSE JAZZ ORCHESTRA
Founded by Bob Rosen in 1994, the Meetinghouse Jazz Orchestra has been a large ensemble that performs the work of celebrated composers and arrangers who write in the jazz idiom. The ensemble has performed with notable jazz artists over the years including instrumentalists, Bobby Watson, Houston Person, Bob Mintzer, Kenny Barron and singers Andy Bey, Janis Siegel, Etta Jones, and Peter Eldridge. Past projects have included arrangements written for the ensemble as diverse as the tangos of Astor Piazzolla, a synthesis of Eastern European Jewish themes with the strains of Arabic music from the Middle East and hip-hop funk rhythms coupled with ingenious harmonic language. Hundreds of musicians have played in the Meetinghouse Jazz Orchestra and dozens of composers have heard their works. It is only in a city like New York that such a high caliber of musician can be called upon to form this unique jazz coalition. The ensemble thanks Friends Seminary and the 15th Street Meeting for its continued support.
