This week in music is chock full of tidbits about Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, Jeff Beck and Waylon Jennings to name a few!

June 9 1972: Elvis Presley plays his first of four sold-out shows at New York's Madison Square Garden. George Harrison, John Lennon, David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Art Garfunkel were among the music stars that attended the shows. The shows were recorded and became the album "Elvis As Recorded At Madison Square Garden."

June 10 1966: Janis Joplin makes her debut performance with Big Brother and the Holding Company at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.

June 11 1949: Born on this day, Frank Beard, drums, ZZ Top. Yes, he's the one without the beard!

June 12 1967: "Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits" peaked at No. 10 in the US chart. The cover photograph of the album was taken by Rowland Scherman at Dylan's November 28, 1965, concert in Washington, D.C. The Bob Cato cover won the 1967 Grammy Award for Best Album Cover Photography. The original album package also included Milton Glaser's now-iconic "psychedelic" poster.

June 13 1987: Whitney Houston began a six-week stay at No. 1 on the UK album chart with her second LP "Whitney." "Whitney" set various records on the US charts. Houston became the first female artist to debut at No. 1 with an album and its first four singles, "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)," "Didn't We Almost Have It All," "So Emotional" and "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" all hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first female artist to achieve that feat.

June 14 1968: The Jeff Beck Group featuring Rod Stewart made their US debut at the Fillmore East, New York, opening for The Grateful Dead.

June 15 Three music legends were born on June 15. in 1921: Born on this day, jazz piano great, Erroll Garner, in 1937, Born on this day, the king of the country music Outlaws, Waylon Jennings and in1941, Born on this day, the great vocalist/songwriter Harry Nilsson.
