Silver Metre is best described a hard rock band.
They only recorded and released the one album, and performed a handful of select shows, including a tour of the U.S. with Traffic.
The group disbanded after a year together.

The album featured two other John/Taupin compositions, "Sixty Years On", and "Country Comfort".

Individually the four musicians have vast musical credentials.
Time and space make it impossible for me to even give a brief description of each musicians achievements.
However; Leigh Stephens co-founded Blue Cheer, and both Sears and Waller had a close association with Long John Baldry.
Just use Google and go mad.

In a recent interview conducted by Klemen Breznikar, Leigh Stephens was asked about his Silver Metre period.
Stephens offered this bit of insight about the inclusion of the John/Taupin songs :

"I was living in London and Mickey Waller just appeared having been part of Jeff Beck Group. He introduced me to Ronnie Wood and we started to rehearse at the Stones studio in Bermoundsey. Woodie ended up going with the Faces and Pete and I ended up meeting Harry Reynolds that had a friend with a lot of good songs to yet be recorded. Turns out his friend was Elton John and we took around four or five songs of his and did them on the Silver Metre album."

Another bit of interesting trivia...there exists a concert recording of Silver Metre from the Fillmore West on 10 July 1970.
It includes the three John/Taupin songs as part of their set list.
The band had been performing the Elton John material onstage before Elton himself had made his debut in the United States in August 1970.
