Lyrics:
Ephemera
Words were uttered,
Too heavy for our young shoulders,
And promises were made
To be broken as we got older.
Perhaps we would have been wise,
To take them back once we knew,
That Always is but a fairy tale,
And Forever’s too good to be true.
My beautiful ephemera,
How I wish that you could stay,
But a flower unwatered,
Won’t bloom for a new day.
Oh beautiful ephemera,
What a thing of dismay,
That love, loyalty, friendship and faith,
Can so easily fade away.
We crossed our hearts,
We swore in solemn tones.
And now we watch the words crumble,
From what was supposed to be stone.
And so we carry on,
No more crosses to bear,
You can keep erasing the past,
I’ll keep pretending I don’t care.
My beautiful ephemera,
How I wish that you could stay,
But a flower unwatered,
Won’t bloom for a new day.
Oh beautiful ephemera,
What a thing of dismay,
That love, loyalty, friendship and faith,
Can so easily fade away.
If only I could go back,
To a time long lost,
When I could spend my words and promises,
Oblivious to their cost.
