I've been doing this song for decades. I always wondered who actually wrote it- but its like "House of the Rising Sun" or "Stack-o-lee"- one of those old folk songs that has been passed down and been around forever. There are many pages written about the song online, but, I originally learned the lyrics off an old Bobby Bland LP way back, but later heard and liked the Louis Armstrong version better [which is closer to what I do]- but I don't even sing what he sang... the lyrics i sing have somehow evolved/devolved over the years of my doing it; but there are many versions of the lyrics...
