Blissed out DC Fontana tune from their celebrated debut album, 'Saturn In Her Eyes' is a lysergic collision of culture, cool, continents & creativity.
Recorded on the banks of the River Mersey after legendary Echo & The Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant invited the group to record at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, this Mark Mortimer song is a true East-West hybrid.
The group was joined in the studio by Indian sarangi virtuoso Surinder Sandhu & a host of others to blend together a fine floating feast of fuzz, Farfisa & exotic instruments like sitar, sarangi, tabla, swarmandal, udu, harmonium.
Droning cellos blend effortlessly with fuzz guitar, baroque brass, fizzing Farfisa organ & topped with Karla Milton's dreamy vocal.
DC keyboard player Scott Riley, the one-time member of Spectrum& E.A.R. (Pete Kember's offshoot projects from the Spacemen 3), features heavily on fuzz guitar.
Composer Mortimer consciously brought together musicians from different ethnic, religious & musical backgrounds in a harmonious pow-wow.
From Mortimer's own pagan leanings through W.A.S.P., Hindu, Muslim & Sikh backgrounds, the song was created in a spirit of unity.
'Saturn In Her Eyes" was produced by Donald Ross Skinner (Julian Cope, Salad, Prolapse, Cud, Love Amongst Ruin) & mastered by Smiths/Talking Heads/Las producer Mark Wallis.
The album 'Six Against Eight' won the band plaudits as a kitchen sink drama record of note.
A French version of the song called "Saturn Dans Les Yeux" was sung by occasional DC collaborator Kicca Andriollo & appears on the album 'La Contessa.'
