I'm elated to present a 'new' Pete P piece! I tracked this way back in Feb 2013 at Anup Sastry's studio, along with three other long and challenging pieces (one of which was 55 Cancri's "Impact"); needless to say, it was an exhausting day.

"Eigenvalue" earns the distinction of being the most difficult--overall--song I've ever tracked, on par with only "Bugz". There's a disturbing trend going on here with Pete... Even though this is a single, it's intended to be part of a fleshed-out release entitled 'Synchronized Seasoning'.

There's a lot of spastic playing occurring here, but much like "Bugz", every hit is timed with a purpose. There are an abundance--to say the least--of odd time signatures. I supplemented my kit with an 'x-hat' for some sections.

Notes:
0:01 - 0:07 - drums start softly and crescendo
0:46 - quirky unison section contains a 16th septuplet
0:58 - super quick left crash mute, actually very challenging
1:45 - 2:02 - rimclicks/ride sustain a (mostly) 3-16 pattern, while the kicks complement the guitar in various ways; there are some flams in there, always fun!
2:19 - 2:42 - intensely challenging part of the song, lots of 16th triplet syncopations and whatnot
3:05 - broken 16th quintuplet sequence
3:26 - 3:47 - this section was improvised
3:48 - 4:05 - I consider this the climax of the piece, and it appropriately contains the most batshit intense fill-ins; starting with a crescendo'ing tom/kick pattern, then into another broken 16th quintuplet unison figure and more hyper speed moves
4:46 - if memory serves, this odd time fill-in was an idea that I wrote while rehearsing the tune on the kit; it was originally in 9-8 and Pete suggested 5-4 so the guitar part wouldn't have to move with it. Cool!
