Invitation (Bronisław Kaper) Steve Giordano Quartet - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 03, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Bronisław Kaper's Invitation has always been one of my favorite standards to play in any creative situation. I even do a version with Carla Jenkins singing it in A minor. Not matter what situation I play this tune in, it always begs for some re-harm and exoticness. This one (imperfect as it is) is a loose version with my quartet (while waiting for the trumpet player to show up) exploring each other's musical vocabulary. I love this loose interactive playing. The re-harm if interested, on the bridge is: C#mi, Cmi, Bmi - Emi, Bbmi, Ami - FMaj +11, Dmi Abmi Gmi, and so on. We messed up the ending a little because sometimes there is a tag, but not this time. I figured the imperfections were a minor flaw compared to the creativity.
