Samm Bennett (1957-) is an improvisational drummer/percussionist/singer/composer from Birmingham, AL. In his youth he was influenced by The Beatles' Ringo Starr & Jimi Hendrix drummer Mitch Mitchell as well as the music by The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, and Sly & The Family Stone. He later became interested in free improvisational jazz. He has been a member of Third Person, Bosho and Semantics. In the 1990's he led the group Chunk. Bennett has resided in Tokyo, Japan since 1995. He is currenty one-half of the duo Skist along with his wife, vocalist Haruna Ito. He is also involved in many other music projects, and stays very active today.
