SONGS MY DADDY SHOULD'VE SUNG ME
there was an old dirt road
i used to walk on when I was a little boy
with deep dark woods
dark woods on either side
i'd try my best to be brave
and be the tough little man
ah but sometimes me and those childish fears
we'd sure collide
and there were songs my daddy should have sung me
songs that might've eased my mind
there were songs my daddy should have sung me
but i guess he didn't have the time
hey you little girl from my past
what you doing over here in my mind
there's too many years between then and now
and all the childish things we said
it's harder and harder to see you
now that the sun is going down
before you know it little sweetheart
we'll both be dead
there were songs your daddy should have sung you
songs that might've eased your mind
songs your daddy should have sung you
but i guess he didn't have the time
gonna take this old book
this old book of photographs
pull out the snapshots one by one
and throw 'em in the river
see how they reflect the sun
glinting as they float away
riding on the ripples
see 'em tremble and shiver
there were songs our daddies should have sung us
songs that might've eased our minds
songs our daddies should have sung us
but i guess they didn't have the time
