Ernest Tomlinson (1924-2015) Sheerline - Video

DESCRIPTION:
In the late sixties Light Music was very much on the wane. The BBC had all but abandoned the genre and were throwing away skip loads of music, as were many other mood music publishers. Ernest Tomlinson almost single-handedly managed to rescue much of the material and set up a library of Light music to preserve as much of it as possible. This considerable library was housed in a remote hilltop farmhouse in Lancashire and the parcel firm where who I worked for used to make regular deliveries there, though unfortunately I was never lucky enough to have this place on my delivery schedule. Ernest was also the driving force behind the popular revival of the light Music Society in the late nineties. He was deservedly awarded the MBE in October 2012 for services to music. We shall be forever grateful to Ernest Tomlinson for his incalculable dedication to light music and his popularity on this channel is unmatched by any other composer. Recent copyright issues have prevented me from adding any of his music from a certain well known source, however, I have managed to collect a few more items of his from another record label, although there is little information about these compositions. Sheerline dates from 1962 and is performed by the Crawford Light Orchestra under Joseph Weinberger.
