Xantippe - Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 09, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Xantippe (Xanthippe) an ancient Athenian, the wife of Socrates was famous for her personality;
quarrelsome, argumentative, nagging, scolding, shrewish...

An unconfirmed anecdote purports that once Xanthippe was so enraged with her husband, that she took a chamber pot and poured it out over Socrates' head, which the philosopher accepted with the allegory: „After thunder comes the rain.“

Georg Philipp Telemanns' Trio Sonata in C, TWV 42:C1 has characteristic movements with names of ancient women as movement titles such as Lucretia, who killed herself after being raped, Clelia (Cloelia), the courageous women, who fled the clusian camp, leading away a group of Roman virgins...

And here comes!
The movement „Xantippe“, a live recording from 2013 during the final round of the first international Berliner-Bach competition in berlin, germany.
