Joe Bonamassa - Sloe Gin - Helsinki September 29, 2015 4k to HD - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 13, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
Shot with a Panasonic Lumix LX100 from the first row, right stack in the middle, in 4k, rendered out as 1080p HD 16mbps. Audio recorded with a Zoom H1 attached to the hot shoe of the camera, 24-bit 48kHz, here 320mbps.

Editing done in Vegas Pro13: stabilized with Mercalli V4 (crop and pan keyframed, for more frame-sequence-specific stabilization) colors and contrast (NewBlue ColorFast FX, NewBlue Video Tune-Up Plus). The guitar and background at the beginning (b&w) colorized with NewBlue Colorizer FX (keyframed). Crop and pan (keyframed here throughout) works especially well for 4k footage as that allows for a 75% crop and still maintaining hd quality. For hd material there is much less scope as the beginning of the footage shows. There I did have to do some cropping to further stabilize the image, which unfortunately resulted in some loss of detail. Sony UnSharp was used to add a tad sharpening.

I deliberately used b&w at the beginning as I found the blue lighting on stage not very pleasing to the eye. I think it works here. Isolating the guitar didn't quite work as I had planned but I think it's ok.

I missed the first 1,5 minutes, thinking I was filming perfect video material when in fact I had accidentally turned filming off. So a big thanks to pessomar, who sat next to me, for providing me with the hd material used at the beginning and a few other places here and there.

An amazing performance by the man and his incredible band. This was the second gig on the Fall European Tour 2015 and still early days for the line-up. They'd spent much of the previous day rehearsing in Helsinki and gave a mega-long 18-song set that night.

Joe Bonamassa - vocals and guitar

I think this is my best work to date, given the challenges of the footage. I loved doing it. It took almost a week.
