Roger and the Codgers at the Chicago Barn Dance: "Chinquapin" - Video
PUBLISHED: Jun 26, 2014
DESCRIPTION: Rachel Shapiro Wallace calls a no-walk-through contra dance to end a high-energy evening at the Chicago Barn Dance, June 23, 2014. The band is Roger and the Codgers: Roger Netherton (age 18) on fiddle, Fred Campeau on banjo, Steve Rosen on guitar, and Tony Scarimbolo on bass. The traditional old-time tune is "Chinquapin," one of Roger's favorite choices for an opportunity to improvise. His bandmates got into the mood -- note particularly Fred's creative banjo technique just after the seven-minute mark. (Before you see him, you can hear him drumming on the banjo skin.) The dance is "Butter" by Gene Hubert.
