Cosmic Psychos (Port Royal Street Party) @ Port Melbourne (18th Jan 2014) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 19, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
I had been at this groovy space in Port Melbourne once before, many many moons ago. The last time it was The Boroughs. The boutique New York inspired arts and culture festival which had influential punk rocker glam band, New York Dolls headlining. As well as skateboard stunts, street art, fashion and a bunch of local bands from Deja, Bonniwells, The Hello Morning, Velociraptor, The Fearless Vampire Killers and The Straight Arrows from Sydney. It was an excellent and unique concept but unfortunately it was a one off never to be repeated deal.

So when I heard all about the inaugural Port Royal Street Party being announced, I was genuinely excited! The City Of Port Phillip were hosting the event with the local businesses of Fennell Street which include such household names as Stussy, Globe, Obey, Salford Lads Club and Matilda Bay Brewing Company, who brew on site the popular Fat Yak Beer, Dirty Granny Cider and Minimum Chips Golden Lager.

Who do you get to headline a party at a brewery? None other than legendary blokes you can trust COSMIC PSYCHOS. They will be joined by THE MEANIES, THE MURLOCS, HARMONY, STRAIGHT ARROWS, BATPISS, BITS OF SHIT, THE SPINNING ROOMS, THE DRUNK MUMS and AUSMUTEANTS.

Something new that I have never witnessed at the music festival before was the KING OF THE DAY competition. Where one lucky punter won a double pass, a king's crown, scepter and a goblet of booze that was never empty. He even had his own marked off area next to the DJ tent with a royal throne, so he could be adored by his subjects. A CLASSIC CONCEPT! I loved it and The King had a ball. Last time I saw him, he trying to get a tattoo of a crown!
