Texacala Jones & The TJ Hookers -- Smokes - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 19, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Here's a sad but beautiful lament called "Smokes" from the Texacala Jones & Her TJ Hookers album that came out on Honey Records in 1998. This one really goes to some strange places as it builds to a crescendo of anger and frustration. You have to check out the sax and guitar parts on this! This album features Texacala Jones on vocals, Mick Buck from Blind Willie's Johnson and Roger Prescott from Trainwreck Ghost on lead, rhythm & bottleneck guitars, Walter Daniels from Bigfoot Chester on sax & harmonica, Tim Kinard from Prescott Curlywolf on bass, and Rob Gaines from The Beggars on drums. (Jeff Smith from The Hickiods also appears on the track "Conductor In Black" along with Andy Thomas on bass). Album Art by Charles Hancock.

Yep, it's The Queen Of Cowpunk, gal-pal of the legendary late Jeffrey Lee Pierce of The Gun Club, graduate with honors of the Wanda Jackson / Diamanda Galas School of Screaming Banshees, the one and only Texacala Jones! Her album "Life's So Cool" with Tex and The Horseheads was produced by John Doe of X and the drummer was none other than Robert Williams, former member of Captain Beefheart's band. Texacala Jones has sung on records with Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde, was in The Screaming Sirens & The Ringling Sisters with rockabilly country star Rosie Flores, and fronted countless other cool-ass bands. Every Texacala Jones album should be right there in your record collection beside The Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave, Southern Culture On The Skids, X, The Flesh Eaters, Wanda Jackson, Concrete Blonde and The Reverend Horton Heat!

This album was also released on vinyl on an nearly impossible to find LP by Seattle label Idol Records.
