Soul Limbo - Terry Manning & the Stax Music Academy in Memphis - Video
PUBLISHED:  Mar 16, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
The Stax Music Academy band with special guest Terry Manning on marimba, the instrument he learned to play for the original Stax recording of Soul Limbo for Booker T & the MGs in 1968. This performance followed a talk in Stax' Studio A where Terry told the story of Soul Limbo's importance as the first hit Stax had after former distributor Atlantic Records threatened the label's future by taking ownership of all its master recordings. Stax survived in spite of this adversity under the leadership of Al Bell, who was also responsible for naming this tune "Soul Limbo" and is sitting in the front row on this, his 76th birthday - March 15, 2016 in Memphis.
