DESCRIPTION:
Sven Kacirek, 37 year old published lecturer of percussion and a drummer with a fascinating interest in his chosen field. He has released three LP's, the first in 2007, one in 2011, then one more last year.

This is from the magnificent 2011 LP 'The Kenya Sessions' on which Sven uses glittering swathes of assorted percussion as a base on which to build some elegant and delicately enchanting music. Entitled 'The Kenya Sessions' he has on most of the tracks used African vocal snippets recorded during a month long journey around Kenya. Virtually all of these have a musical quality to them though the level of musicality is of stark contrast to anything that the majority of Westernised ears are accustomed to, though this is not to say the samples are inaccessible. Sven Kacirek has pulled off a remarkable and evocative feat from start to finish in marrying these samples so well to the music that accompanies them. Utilising his orchestral array of percussive instruments alone he creates fine melodic structures into which he then builds his melodies and additional musical tones as well. Clearly the flow and rhythmical focus is directed at retelling the music studied and experienced throughout his expedition of Kenya. What he has created then has a cherished scrap book feel to it, at times fleeting, and often dreamy, giving the impression of passing right through a place, at once at a distance and at the same time with moments of lasting intimacy within that place. The vocal work present initially is like nothing I have heard in music before, but given the right audience it quickly becomes deeply enchanting. It is nothing if not atmospheric.

Driven loosely by Jazz with an orchestral feel, The Kenya Sessions rings with elevating and evocative sounds. It's delicate character is long lasting and has much replay value. It is a gorgeous tone of escapism throughout. Fresh, interesting, engaging and full of character. Well done Sven! Be sure to check him out on Spotify.
