Over the past six or so years it has been a long and exciting road fo dj silk who first became a dj while still at high school.Some teachers may have said that his school education would suffer due to his somewhat at the time distant dream or if u were to ask he would just say "i couldn't be arsed to be honest".Hip hop has always been a first love for silk and in his eyes that is what he wanted to be a part of whether it be djing, working in a record shop anything to do with music he would of been happy doing.Fast forward a few years where silk was able to get himself onto a local community radio station which has been around for 17 years it was at this radio station were silk would start to make a name himself.In his first year on radio at the age of 16 he managed to obtain the best newcomer award for his then low key radio show "DA SHUTDOWN SHOW" where the best in hip hop an r'n'b was featured.Through out the next year silk would be on the grind trying to find club nites in his local town (wolverhampton), eventually the local nites came in and the name SILK would not just be known as an all right radio dj but just as good of a club dj.That year his big break came he a was appointed the head of the BMG street team for wolverhampton at the tender age of 17 which promotes artists such as usher,busta rhymes,alicia keys and outkast,from this opportunity silk was able to play as several big album launch party's across the country including THE NEPTUNES first production album on the label.After the early success in silks djing career he was recruited by the then biggest dj collective in the midlands "THE NEXT LEVEL CREW"(check nextleveldjs.co.uk for more info), with the next level crew silk was able to achieve and play on a level that at the time he wouldn't have been able to on his own,he was able to play all over the country on various bills with all of todays "biggest djs" but don't think silk is all bout playing out in the clubs he is also a dedicated "turntabalist" who would rarely miss a day without jumping on the ones and twos (practice makes perfect).Silk has also had the opportunity of interviewing some of today's biggest artists from Akon to Kano and even legends such as Eric sermon and Guru from gangstarr but it is interviewing an promoting the u.k artists where silk gets his satisfaction, on his previous mixtape "The city on fire" he had exclusive freestyles from all of todays biggest local and u.k artists,most recently silk has been appointed as a resident mix dj for galaxy 102.2 on their all hip hop show "Hip hop elements"

(hosted by 3style) which is a network show that goes out through all the galaxy networks,D.A.B radio and tv.Also on the radio front his shutdown show on skyline fm is going from strength to strength he was awarded best urban radio show at last years skyline awards.This award in particular is important to silk as it is voted for by the listeners,so i guess the next step is for silk is to land that legal spot he has been striding for.He recently joined up forces with a fellow "BAD BOY DJ" major d to co host a show on a legal community radio station in birmingham called newstyle radio on a monthly basis.Throughout all the work that silk does in the dj world you would think that his 9 to 5 would have nothing to do music but in the words of jay-z "youve been wrong before you'll be wrong again" silk has been employed at the biggest record store in the midlands maybe even the world (Hard to find recordsWWW.HTFR.COM) as their hip hop and r'n'b buyer so now you tell me that SILK AINT HIP HOP!!!!.As they say the world is his oyster and at 21 im sure he's starvin!!. oh wait theres more, during the month of may silk hosted 1xtra's XTRA TALENT show every week showcasing his fresh and exciting talent to a much bigger audience check out www.bbc.co.uk/1xtra1/xtra_talent for more info.
