Knut Nystedt (born 3 September 1915):The Seven Seals = De Syv segl) Visions for Orchestra, Op. 46 (1958/1960)

Knut Nystedt, Norwegian orchestral and choral composer, wrote much music on Biblical and sacred themes during his career. Influenced by luminaries such as Aaron Copland and spent much of his career at the Bloomington, Indiana, campus of Indiana University School of Music, Nystedt's work made a considerable contribution to Norwegian music in general. He is one of the few Norwegian composers whose music was widely performed outside his native country.

This work, "The Seven Seals," was recorded originally in 1968 on Philips lp 839 253 (part of their Contemporary Music from Norway series.) That recording was performed by the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra with Øivin Fjeldstad, conductor.

The performance uploaded here is by the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Fritz Mahler, conductor, recorded in Hartford, Connecticut, on November 23, 1960.
