Though this song was released in 1999 on the album Gibson & Camp at The Gate Of Horn ... Revisited! with the note, "Not included on the original LP record," the far superior version (in the opinion of this channel) was that released on the Vanguard compilation, "Greatest Folksingers of the 'Sixties."

The version of Well, Well, Well released on the Vanguard compilation was originally recorded live at the Newport Folk Festival in 1960 and, to many, remains the definitive version of the song.

The song itself speaks to the fact that, at the time, it was clear to many observers, and especially Bob Gibson, that the "World's not waitin' for the Lord's command, ..." but was, instead, "... buildin' a fire that'll sweep the land."

This prophetic statement is reflected in the words of Jesus, quoted from the King James Version (KJV) in Luke 12:49, "I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?"

That Gibson's lyric reflects the scriptural subject of man attempting to usurp the holy imperative that is not his to perform, does not appear to be accidental.

That this interpretation of the lyric being derived from holy scripture is probable in that it is supported by the fact that Gibson's friend and partner, Hamilton Camp, wrote and recorded a similarly-themed song "Pride Of Man" which he recorded on his solo album released in 1964.

The interpretation of the song reflecting the suggestion posed by Jesus of usurpers appearing in the end times is also supported by the other references to holy scripture (Daniel 8:19 and 2nd Peter 3:7) in the song that speak to the "day of judgment."
