Hearts of Space #506 Spectral Ships - Video
PUBLISHED:  Oct 12, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
It's the stuff of legend — and the substance of history. In [his book] "Folklore and the Sea," HORACE BECK writes: "Nautical stories tell of ghost ships, which appear on the horizon at dusk or dawn. From the ghost ships lore comes the famous story of "The FLYING DUTCHMAN" — a disembodied sea captain condemned to eternal and defiant wandering," along with thousands of literary and artistic works, right down to the logo of the Grateful Dead.

The ghost ships take on certain disguises — as fiery ships; as flying ships that hang in the sky; or as normal ships that do peculiar things, like sailing backwards or vanishing just as they reach land. Sometimes only the ribs remain, or the ships are luminescent and pass in total silence. The helm stands empty, and the crew (if they exist) are skeletons. On this early Scorpio edition of HEARTS of SPACE called SPECTRAL SHIPS — spacemusic inspired by these ancient tales and legends.
