Rebelation (Tony Devenish solo) - This Great Britain 2016 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jun 16, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
This song is meant with every irony and 20 years on, I've re-recorded it as it seems wholly appropriate. We, as a nation, are about to undertake the most irresponsibly dangerous experiment, which could have implications and ramifications for generations to come. The arguments for leaving the European Union seem to be led by perpetrators of xenophobia and empire hangoverists. We have a right wing press who revel in spreading lies about immigration and seek to divide and separate leading to more down treading of those in greatest need. They love to talk about unity when it comes to war and long for a romanticised version of a bygone aged Britain, which never existed in the first place. These are the themes that this song explores and why it seems more relevant today than it probably ever has done.

I remember writing the lyrics following a conversation with my work mate Trevor down at the RSPB in Snettisham, Norfolk when the European question was all around whether we enter the single currency or not.

We originally wrote and recorded this song back in 1996 or 7 (I think) with Ady Chaplin, Martin Weston, Nicky Wright and Jay Swain. It originally appeared on the album 'Steppas'. It also featured on the 'Yo Swing That Mama' album.

The video was kindly filmed and put together by John Matthews.
