One thing you can say about German duo QEK Junior is that a band named after an old DDR caravan must have a sense of humour. Since I caught them at the 2009 Antwerp BIMFest I doubt a week has gone by that I haven't listened to their album Ausverkauf. This is a deceptively addictive experience, really getting under your skin. The middle quartet of Schwarzes Gold, 1/0, Yoshiwara and Kopfkino is utterly inspired electronic pop.

Lots of influences from synth pop through old-school pioneers like DAF & Die Krupps, EBM, avant-pop like Tuxedomoon, and the results show in an album with a deceptive range despite using a fairly minimal amount of sounds. The key is to get the right ones, and they've done this - the percussion is similar from track to track and I had to sample it as it's too good to miss out on.
