Georges Brassens Sings "Parapluie" ("Umbrella") - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 09, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Brassens at his light-hearted best! This song is a classic of lightness, a musical French soufflé. The French deserve a lot of credit for having salvaged charm in age of general crudeness. This lovely song is very much like French short films that capture a moment of affection, flavored by innocence and flirtation. Pure charm.
"It was raining hard on Main Street. She was walking without an umbrella. I had one, that I had probably swiped that very morning from a friend. Running right away to her rescue, I offered a little refuge. Shaking the water from her pixie face she very sweetly said yes!
A little bit of umbrella for a little bit of paradise! She was something like an angel! A little bit of paradise for a little bit of umbrella! I didn't lose anything on that trade! Not at all!
It was sweet to walk along and listen to the happy song of rainfall pattering on my umbrella. I wanted to see the rain keep falling, like a deluge, so I could keep you under my refuge, for 40 days and nights!
A little bit of umbrella for a little bit of paradise! She was something like an angel! A little bit of paradise for a little bit of umbrella! I didn't lose anything on that trade! Not at all!
But, Damn it! Even in a storm, streets actually LEAD somewhere, and soon hers led her hard up against the border of my own foolishness! And she left me, after a big, cheerful "Thank You." And I saw the beautiful little creature slip gracefully away into my oblivion!
A little bit of umbrella for a little bit of paradise! She was something like an angel! A little bit of paradise for a little bit of umbrella! I didn't lose anything on that trade! Not at all!
