A Celebration Of Southern Music, Art, and Culture

Mucklewain was conceived from the notion that there are rock and roll bands and songwriters in the south, whose musical "voice" is underexposed in relation to its impact on southern culture. Artists who have toured or are constantly touring and trying to take the rock to the people. Mucklewain's a people's festival, a southern people's festival featuring artists whose music speaks to the working southerner, and helps to shape and create a positive "southern culture". Mucklewain is about creating a real sense of southern pride where you don't have to be ashamed of the dark, twisted history of the south. The very idea that there is a meaningful culture, of any kind, in the south is a foreign concept to a large portion of the nation. Most see the southern states as a region of backwards people, and, while this may be true, it doesn't have to be negative, because there is a new breed of southerner poised to make a positive mark on the rich history of the south. They have chosen to lay down the confederate flags carried by their ancestors in lieu of waving flags of peace and prosperity for all. It is in their honor that we present this literate celebration of southern music, art, and culture.
