Mickey Newbury : "Tilde" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jul 11, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Mickey Newbury was an American singer-songwriter born in Houston, Texas, in 1940. He died in Springfield, Oregon, in 2002. Annual songwriter gatherings in his honor continue to this day, held each summer in Texas. Willie Nelson said, "He was one of the best writers we've ever had, and one of the best friends I've ever had." The song presented here, "Tilde", is a Newbury arrangement of a traditional song (more commonly known as "Sylvie"), and was released posthumously on "Blue To This Day". The opening segment is Susan Newbury talking about a hilarious late-night restaurant episode concerning Mickey's relationship with time and dates. "Tilde" is a masterful and powerful example of what Newbury could do in adding his own genius to a traditional song. Check out more of Mickey's work at this website ( http://www.mickeynewbury.com )
