Mike Gordon & The Agates (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1140093/) was actually a rock band known as The Routers, a popular group known for their "hand-clapping" national hit song, "Let's Go!".
They had to play under several different names because they weren't allowed to use their own recordings. The producer of The Routers only wanted to use studio musicians so he could collect Union leader's fees. The band wanted to write and record their own songs, so they had to go to other labels and record under a different name. The also used the name, "The Du-Kanes" under which they recorded the songs, "Shock Treatment" and "Our Star", both written by Michael Z. Gordon.
