03. Jennette McCurdy - "Break Your Heart" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 21, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Jennette McCurdy's third track under Capitol Records Nashville, from her debut EP, "Not That Far Away".

"It's about getting back at someone who broke your heart and the way you're going to get back at them is by breaking their heart by singing it to them on the radio. I can't imagine a better kind of revenge. And that's a fun song to sing because I pick someone out in the audience and really sing it straight to them. I have a great time singing and performing it" - Jennette

Information:
"Break Your Heart" was released on August 17.
A minute preview of the song was released in a fan-voted poll that featured samples of six songs. The fans were supposed to vote which one of the six songs should be the first single from her album. "Break Your Heart" was second place most of the time but eventually became third after "Not That Far Away" passed it and "Stronger". The song was nominated for best break-up song on the BopTigerBeat website and got second place. The song talks about a girl whose heart was broken by a guy who afterwards wants to start over but she denies his suggestion. She tells him that she's gonna "break his heart on the radio" by singing it to him on the radio and thus seeking revenge.

Personal Review:
"Break Your Heart" is my favorite song from the EP and by Jennette. One of my favorite songs of all time. It is a little edgier and 'rockier' than the rest of her songs. The music in it is great and very rocky - the powerful drums and the electric guitar stick out more than the other instruments. I love the 'guitar solo' after the second chorus very much. But what really makes this song my favorite by her are the vocals. Even though Jennette didn't co-write the song it feels like she can relate to it very well and really sings from the heart. I think that her best vocal work is in this song -- she reaches the high and powerful notes in the choruses (especially in the second one), but not just that; she sings the song with a lot of feeling, energy, and power and hits the notes (high or low) perfectly. I don't think any other artist can sing this song the way she does -- not even Carrie Underwood, who is compared a lot to Jennette and has a strong voice, could sing this as well as she did. The lyrics are very good, not the best, but still very well. The song shows a little bit of Jennette's dark side which I love very much. I give this song 5/5 Stars!

Is this your favorite song by Jennette?
