Happy Dog Project is a Greek band formed in 2000.
The band members perform their own music that incorporates elements from balkan/greek traditional music, funky beats, jazz impro, dub and electro ambiences. Along with female vocalist Nasia Gofa, HDP perform old folk greek songs (by Stelios Kazantzidis, Rita Sakellariou, Manolis Angelopoulos and so on) and some jazz standards in a twisted way.
Along with the steady group members, many musicians/friends have performed with HDP as guests over the years: saxman Yannis Papanastasiou, trumpeter Manos Theodosakis, percussionists Takis Tsourgiannis and Vassilis Stamatiou, Dj Marble, VJ Yannis Nisidis, klarinet player Kostas Tzekos, saxman Marios Valinakis etc.
Happy Dog Project have performed in clubs and open air festivals all over Greece and in Europe (Hyde Park in London, England, Akbank Jazz Festi in Istanbul etc). Their two CDs were broadcasted in various european and american radios (Canada, Mexico).
Their first CD, entitled "Dog Days Are Over", was released in 2004, and their second one ("Doggy Style") in 2007, both from Ankh Records.
Both CD's were produced by Manolis Angelakis, with Stathis Ioannou on the second release. In late 2011 they recorder their third CD entitled "Dog To The Bone" with both Angelakis and Ioannou - their CD includes various original instrumental and three obscure greek folk songs from the 60s and 70s. The CD is out since June 19th 2012 from Rope-a-dope Records (www.ropeadope.com) in the USA and worldwide
