I'm just starting out with making music on the computer, went to guitar center and tried out ableton launchpad first. I did touch the macschine for a few minutes, and just remember thinking "omg the quality of that freakin controller..." I ended up returning launchpad, (which was still super cool) but just completely fell in love with the MK2. Started out with the 1.0 version of the software, which was intuitive enough, but now upgraded to 2.0 which is just amazingly simple to get started. I've messed around with ableton live a tiny bit, pro tools a tiny bit and reason as well. You may end up importing your stems into those DAWs but the 2.0 software is excellent in my opinion. The colors and feel of this control are just unreal. Couldn't be happier.

I was afraid of buyer's remorse since I have been using Reason for years and getting used to a new DAW environment definitely has its learning curve... However, Maschine's interface (both hardware and software) is so intuitive that I literally learned the basics in about 2 days. I have yet to get deep into sampling, but sequencing beats with this thing is probably the best thing out there.
