This is the second in a series of collaborative works by Frank Macchia and Alex Iles, taking some of the short film works by Georges Méliés and creating new music composed for the films featuring the trombone. This piece, "Excelsior" was made in 1901. I did a straight forward french jazz score to this piece as it's primarily a series of magic tricks, and I wanted it to feel like a band was performing this live for a live magic show. Alex and I hope you enjoy this tribute to an amazing artist and film maker. We are hoping to make this part of a 4-5 movement suite with other Méliés short films.
