El Tanbura & The Egyptian Blue Man - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 14, 2016
DESCRIPTION:
An impromptu dance by a one-man Blue Man Group, this cat could put Beyonce's Super Bowl appearance to shame...

The scene: El Dammah Theatre for Free Arts in Abdeen, Downtown, Cairo, where the El Mastaba Center for Egyptian Folk Music regularly hosts performances by musicians who keep the indigenous musical traditions (and instruments) of Egypt alive and well. The group playing is El Tanbura, a collective of veteran Egyptian master musicians, singers, fishermen and philosophers based in Port Said.

The musicians regularly call concertgoers to the stage to dance to their unique rhythms.

The Blue Man was in front of me in the back of the theater, dousing me in the sweat flying off of his shirt as he gyrated wildly to El Tanbura's call. I gently suggested that he make his way to the stage, and the rest is history...
