Tonight's Soul Rebels session is special as it's my birthday so I'm doing another monster bill of different but related genres including Cuban funk flavours from London's hottest Latin fusion band, a brand new soul diva from Augusa Georgia USA in the UK for the FIRST time plus Leeds' finest MC for the last decade and a half!

WARA (London)....launching their debut album on Movimientos Records!
Wara is an 10 piece explosion of Cuban timba-funk meets hiphop, jazz, soca and dubstep made up of musicians from across the globe and led by Latina keyboards wizard and singer Eliane Correa. They lead the new young London alternative Latin scene and have played big festivals like Glastonbury, WOMAD and Big Chill. Last in Leeds in 2011 at the Leeds Loves Latino Festival, they're back promoting their new album "Leave To Remain" on Movimientos Records.

FAYTH HOPE (Augusta Georgia USA).....underground soul and spoken word from the birthplace of James Brown!
Contemporary soul singer Fayth Hope is from the hometown of James Brown and Sharon Jones, Augusta Georgia. She wrote and produced a self-released six track EP "Out Of Obscurity Part 1 : From The Darkness" in 2012. The single "Truly, Madly, Deeply" Gilles Peterson played on his weekly BBC 6 Music show saying "a little bit Jill Scott, a little bit Marlena Shaw, a little bit Ursula Rucker...plus a lot of originality too!". Songwriter, singer, spoken word poet, Fayth is currently writing and producing tracks for "Out Of Obscurity Part 2" and Soul Rebels is proud to announce she is making her first ever UK appearance at The Wardrobe at this event! You can check Fayth's music and story out here:

For this gig (and only one more in the UK in London the next day), she is backed by three of Leeds' finest young jazz/soul/hiphop/beats musicians around right now - Aron Kyne (Thabo & The Real Deal/Stop Motion Trio) on keyboards, Sam Vicary (Ikestra) on bass and Matt Davies (Paper Tiger) on drums. Fayth and band onstage 10.30pm.

HOMECUT aka TESTAMENT (FIRST WORD RECORDS).....solo live loops, samples & beatbox set!
Leeds' premier rapper/MC and conscious wordsmith Andy Brooks aka Testament/Homecut, has been spitting lyrics worldwide for a decade and a half at gigs and on recordings. His debut album "No Freedom Without Sacrifice" (First Word 2009) featured collaborations with Corinne Bailey Rae, Soweto Kinch, J-Live and Andreya Treyana and was followed up in 2012 with the excellent remix project of the same album. Tonight, he showcases his amazing freestyle skills and improvisational talent via his one-man beatbox/live loops & samples show....get down early to catch this....you'll think there's a whole band onstage! Start time 9.45pm. You can check Testament here: http://homecut.bandcamp.com/
