The mighty Led Zeppelin. Truly part of the trifecta of bands of my formative years. If the metal scene inspired me to pick up the sticks, and the progressive rock scene awe me with its complexity, Zeppelin’s music and of course John Bonham style showed me how to Groove (with a capital G) in a rock context. The drive behind this track is monstrous and all that on a simple two beat idea that doesn’t let up for the entire track. Bonham’s kick was of course and huge part of his style and this one is truly one of his masterpieces. Hence why I thought I would do it to see how far I have come since those years. I must admit quite well if I can say so. I wasn’t struggling but was having fun playing it. Back in the day did I ever struggle with that kick pattern. If you are looking for a transcription of the beat, you can find it at the link courtesy of the Online drummer: http://www.onlinedrummer.com/sheet-music/immigrant-song-led-zeppelin/

I also did it for a few students who wanted a kick challenge so there ya go guys, happy practicing. ;)

As usual I hope to have done it justice all the while staying true to my one take philosophy which is how Zeppelin actually recorded it back in the day.

Please subscribe share and all that good stuff.

All the best,
Denis R
