DESCRIPTION:
The Belgo-Syrian composer and oudist Elias Bachoura studied oud at the Damascus Conservatoire in the land of his birth, Syria, with such great masters as Askar Alikabirof and Munir Bachir. In Belgium he studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, with Daniel Capelletti as teacher. His twofold musical knowledge, both eastern and western, makes him a particularly critical and attentive musician who combines intelligence and feeling. With his instrument he has mastered a variety of styles, traditional, classical and modern. At present he teaches the oud for Muziekpublique and also plays, among others, with the group Olla Vogala, under the direction of Wouter Vandenabeele. To mark the tenth anniversary of Muziekpublique he begins with an improvised piece before performing two popular songs from Syria. The improvisation is in the Qadmoyo mode, a traditional Syriac mode known to the Arabs, Iranians and Turks and called Bayat. This mode is often used to express joy and feelings of satisfaction. Here, gentleness, tenderness and happiness are the sentiments that this mode evokes.
"Bi Noukhrayto" or "In Foreign Lands" is a popular song in 3/4 time composed by the master Jamil Bashir, lthe older brother of the oud-player Munir Bashir. The lyrics tell of a lover who quits his country, leaving behind him a great love and a whole heap of memories and tales that make him suffer every day while abroad.
"Marr li Saro" or "Tell me Sarah" is a traditional song representing a lover who relates to us his dream of Saro, or Sarah, his beloved. He tells of Sarah's beauty and of his desire never to leave her but to spend the rest of his life with her.

Oudiste et compositeur, Belgo-Syrien, Elias Bachoura a étudié l' Oud au conservatoire de Damas avec des grands professeurs comme Askar Alikabirof et Munir Bachir. Il a continué ses études en composition au conservatoire royale de Bruxelles avec le professeur Daniel Capelletti. Il maîtrise avec son instrument beaucoup de styles traditionnels, classiques et modernes. Actuellement Elias Bachoura est professeur de oud à Muziekpublique et il joue avec des groupes comme Olla Vogala. Dans cet enregistrement il commence avec une improvisation suivi par deux chansons populaires Syriaque. L'improvisation est en mode Qadmoyo, un mode traditionnel syriaque connu chez les Arabes, Iraniens et Turques sous le nom de Bayat. Ce mode est souvent utilisé pour exprimer la joie et les sentiments de satisfaction. Douceur, tendresse, et bonheur sont les sentiments évoqués par les phrases improvisées en ce mode.

«Bi Noukhrayto» À l'étranger ! est une chanson populaire en rythme 3/4 composée par le maitre Jamil Bashir, le grand frère du joueur de oud Munir Bashir. Le texte parle d'un amoureux qui quitte son pays en laissant derrière lui un grand amour et un tas de souvenirs et d'histoires qui lui font souffrir chaque jour à l'étranger !

«Marr li Saro» 'raconte-moi Sarah' est une chanson traditionnelle représentant un aimant qui nous raconte son rêve de «Saro», Sarah son amoureuse. Il parle de la beauté de Sarah et de ses désirs de ne pas la quitter et de passer toute sa vie avec elle !

Elias Bachoura studeerde oud aan het Conservatorium van Damascus in zijn geboorteland Syrië met meesters als Askar Alikabirof en Munir Bachir. In België studeerde hij aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel. Zijn dubbele muzikale kennis, Oosters en Westers, maken hem tot een bijzonder kritisch en aandachtig muzikant die intelligentie aan gevoel koppelt. Op dit moment is Elias Bachoura leraar oud bij Muziekpublique en speelt hij ondermeer met de groep Olla Vogala, onder leiding van Wouter Vandenabeele. Naar aanleiding van de tiende verjaardag van Muziekpublique speelt hij een improvisatie gevolgd door twee populaire liederen uit Syrië.

De improvisatie is in de Qadmoyo modus (maqam), een tradionele Syrische maqam die bij de Arabieren, de Iraniërs en de Turken bekend is onder de naam Bayat. Deze maqam wordt vaak gebruikt om vreugde en gevoelens van voldoening weer te geven.
«Bi Noukhrayto» naar het buitenland ! is een populair lied in ¾ dat gecomponeerd werd door meester Jamil Bashir, de grote broer van oud-speler Munir Bashir. De tekst gaat over iemand die zijn land verlaat en zijn grote liefde achterlaat, net als massa's herinneringen en verhalen die hem elke dag pijn doen.

«Marr li Saro» 'vertel mij Sarah' is een traditioneel lied waarin iemand zijn droom over zijn liefde «Saro», Sarah vertelt. Hij bezingt haar schoonheid en wil heel zijn leven bij haar blijven.
